In November 2020, a research project no. S32/15/003, titled: Contemporary military operations - conditions, experiences and the prospects for changes in the battlefield – by the Military Institute of Armament Technology (WITU) in Zielonka, from an In-House Research Fund, started to be implemented. The project was based on an agreement concluded on the 12th of February 2020, between the Faculty of International and Political Studies of Jagiellonian University and the Military Institute of Armament Technology with the aim of strengthening mutual relations in order to develop scientific research, teaching and educational cooperation. The project is planned for the years 2020-2023 and is carried out by the faculty members of the Department of National Security (DNS) of the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations of the Jagiellonian University and research fellows of the WITU. The project is headed by Col. (Res.) Prof. dr hab. Dariusz Kozerawski from the Department of the National Security, JU. The research team is composed by:

Col. EngD Rafał Bazela (WITU);

Col. (res.) EngD Jarosław Walczak (WITU);

Dr. Agata Mazurkiewicz (DNS JU);

Dr. Błażej Sajduk (DNS JU);

Piotr Orłowski, MA (DNS JU).

The preparation of the research project was stimulated by the changing perception of the significant and diverse influence of the national, regional and global security environments on contemporary military operations. The experiences of numerous security actors for whom armed conflicts constitute one of the most serious strategic challenges was also important in that regard. Therefore, it is fully justified to conduct research and publish its outcomes concerning conditions, relevant experiences and prospects for changes in the battlefield which characterize modern military operations, taking into account modernization and development of the currently used weapons systems and implementation of modern technologies in the context of international security.

Expected measurable results of the research project include: organization of a series of scientific conferences and symposia, presentation of papers by the project team members during conferences and symposia (domestic and foreign ones), publication of scholarly articles presenting partial research results. A final outcome of the research will be presented in a monographic book (published in Polish or a foreign languages) on contemporary military operations with a particular emphasis on the conditions, experiences and prospects for changes in the battlefield.
