Open Lecture by Professor Christopher Paul, RAND Corporation

The Department of National Security of the Institute of Political Science and International Relations of Jagiellonian University in cooperation with the Students’ Association of National Security cordially invites to the Open Lecture by Professor Christopher Paul, Senior Social Scientist at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California. The topic of the lecture is: Russian Propaganda and the Psychology behind its Effectiveness.

The lecture will take place in Collegium Olszewskiego UJ (2, Olszewskiego St), lecture room no. 223 in Krakow, on the 10th of October 2018 (Wednesday), starting at 17.00 (5 pm). It will be followed by Q & A session. The lecture and debate will be held in English.

Christopher Paul is a senior social scientist at the RAND Corporation and professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty in the Center for Economic Development in the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined RAND in 1996 as an adjunct and in 2002 he became a full-time analyst. In 2001–02 Christopher Paul worked on the statistics faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has developed methodological competencies in comparative historical and case study approaches, evaluation research, various forms of quantitative analysis, and survey research. His numerous publications cover such topics as hybrid warfare, cyber operations, strategic communication, propaganda and persuasion. He is an author of Strategic Communication: Origins, Concepts, and Current Debates, published with Praeger in 2011, as well as articles in such renowned journals as Defence Strategic Communication, Joint Force Quarterly and Small Wars Journal.
