This commentary presents some preliminary thoughts about the outcome of the Russo-Ukrainian war of 2022. The main idea is to try to assess, even if it might look premature, which factors will shape the international position of the Russian Federation in the coming months and years. There are two basic assumptions concerning that. Firstly, we believe that Vladimir Putin’s power has weakened, and his position as the chief decision-maker in Moscow is no longer secure. Secondly, Russia is about to suffer a substantial military defeat, economic downturn and social crisis of its own making for no significant benefit.
